When Christopher Columbus and other explorers came to the New World,
they saw animals that they had never seen before. In the forests there were
turkeys. On the Great Plains there were buffalo. They saw some plants that were
strange, also. They had never seen tobacco. The tomato and potato were new to
them, as were corn and pumpkins. When the settlers came, they brought animals
and plants that the Indians had never seen: hogs, chickens, cattle, and horses.
Dogs were common in both the Old World and the New World.

Dear Riana,
Hi! How are you? We have not met each other for a long time. I
really miss you.
Though I look forward to the festival season, I feel a tinge of
sadness. Because you are not with me. Our childhood was the warmest. Remember
how we first met at the canteen and then got to know each other? As buddies, we
counted on each other for everything. We shared lunches, clothes, joy, and even
grief. And remember how we studied in the fast food restaurant, spotting
questions and sharing answers?
Of course, we had our share of quarrels. Why did we let matters like
boyfriends come between us? Remember how we both felt head over heels in love
with OSIS perfect? However, we soon made up when we realized that neither of us
meant anything to our high and mighty hero.
Well, that’s all nice experience that I will never forget forever.
Cheers,
Nadia

Dear Winda,
How was your long holiday? Did you experience something
unforgettable? I did. Here is the story.
Last week, my friend and I were bored after three weeks of holidays,
so we rode our bikes to Smith Beach. We were surprised to see there was hardly
anyone there.
After having a quick dip in the ocean, which was really cold, we
realised one reason there were not many people there. It was also quite windy.
After we bought ourselves some hot chips at the take away store
nearby, we rode our bikes down the beach for a while, on the hard, damp part of
the sand. We had the wind behind us and before we know it, we were many miles
down the beach.
Before we mae the long trip back we decided to paddle our feet in
the water for a while, and then sit down for a rest. While we were sitting on
the beach, just chatting, it suddenly dawned on us both that all the way back
we would be riding into the strong wind.
When we finwlly made it back home, we were both totally exhausted.
But we learned some good lessond that day!
That’s my experience. I’m looking forward to hearing you soon

OH MY PA-PA
(song by Edie Fisher)
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so good
NO one could be, so gentle and so loveable
Oh my pa-pa, he always understood
Gone are the days when he could take me on his knee
And with a smile he’d change my tears to laughter
Oh my pa-pa, so funny, and so adoreable
Always the clown so funny in his ways
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful
Deep in my heart I miss him so today

Castleton
is one of the most popular centres in the Peak District. Maybe this is because
it has everything the visitor might want picturesque scenery (it is overlooked
by Mam Tor), a ruined Norman castle, show caves, interesting geology (such as
Winnats Pass), good walks and a pretty village. However, it also has a lot of
tourists, even in winter, and on summer weekends you must be prepared to jostle
with the crowds!
Winnats the village is centred around a square in which the church
lies – this is just off the main road and directly beneath Peveril Castle on
the hill behind. The castle was built in 1080 as a wooden building and rebuilt
in stone around 1175 and the church was begun about the same time. It has a
fine Norman arch across the Nave, which was constructed from 1190 to 1250. The
tower was added in 1450 – 1500 and more additions were made in the 19th
century. Other signs of the Norman era still remain – across the main road by
the Bull’s Head Inn you can see a section of the Town Ditch, . . . .

On Wednesday, my students and I went to Jogjakarta. We stayed at Dirgahayu Hotel which is far
from Malioboro.
On Thursday, we visited the temples in Prambanan. There are three big temples, the Brahmana,
Syiwa and Wisnu temples. They are really
amazing. We visited only Brahma and
Syiwa temples, because Wisnu temple was being renovated.
On Friday morning, we went to Royal Palace of Jogjakarta. We spent about two hours there. We were lucky because we were led by a smart
and friendly guide. Then we continued
our journey to Borobudur. We arrived
there at four p.m. at 5 p.m., we heard
an announcement that Borobudur gate would be closed.
In the evening, we left for Jakarta by Wisata bus.
